Why Run for Family Court?

Ricja's Reasons for Running for Albany County Family Court

“The children and families of Albany County need us.  The bad news, late night calls, and increase in weekend arraignments are troubling.  We can and must do our part to address the needs of the community.  People want to be heard.  They need someone who understands what they are going through and knows what resources are available to help.  They need someone who has been in their shoes and understands the tough choices they are facing.”
Judge Ricja Rice

As acting Family Court Judge, Judge Rice hears abuse and neglect cases, custody and visitation disputes, child support violations, family domestic violence offenses, foster care review and approval, adoptions, guardianship, paternity, juvenile delinquency, and persons in need of supervision (PINS).  As an Albany City Court Judge, Judge Rice is also assigned to arraign minors accused of offenses on nights and weekends.

The New York State legislature recently created an additional judgeship in Albany Family Court to address the increased volume of cases and needs of the Capital Region.  With the expanded caseload and two family court judges leaving the court there is a dire need to fill three seats as soon as possible with qualified and compassionate individuals who can do the job on Day One.  Judge Rice is the only sitting judge running for the position.

Let there be justice for all. Let there be peace for all... Let each know that for each the body, the mind and the soul have been freed to fulfill themselves.
